Georgetown, Guyana
Postponed Flight
Our flight to Guyana from Suriname was postponed for
hours. Ramesvara and I decided to take a
chance at a twelve-seater plane that would get us in earlier, meaning that I
wouldn't miss my presentation for the "9 Devotions Workshop."
I had been lacking sleep like anything and felt myself to be
an owl for several nights. I surrendered
to a sleeping pill. It did the job, and
after that comfy slumber, we were dashed off to the closest airport over in
Paramaribo.
But, my gawd, was it noisy, tight, and even surreal. If I got the pilot's message right, we were
just under 9,000 feet in the air. We
could see everything from above—the rainforest, the fields, the ocean's edge,
and then Georgetown itself. Landing was
okay but I needed to get out of there.
The noise. And then the
heat. Saci Suta, who always sports a
strong saffron choli for robes, was there to greet us. And on our way, we saw with the greatest
delight, young boys doing flips into a river.
It looked like fun.
The pill I took earlier crept drowsiness into me again, and
so I went for a good one and a half hour
slumber in readiness for the "9 Devotions" where participants strive
onward to be more ‘human’ in this interactive format. Yes, we were breaking formalities and getting
a chance for everyone to say something, taking a break from all sitting
together to hear someone give a lecture. Forty-five people turned up. We had that bhakti blast.
May the Source be with you!
