Barrie, Ontario
To Barrie
Sunny (also Srivatsa) is a cool
73 years old man from Guyana who drove me to the north destination, Barrie,
Ontario and Lake Simcoe. There we converged with other practitioners of bhakti
yoga at Minet’s Point Park, to be more specific, with Barrie residents
Jason, Naina, Mohit, their kids, Krishna Katha and Nimai-Nita to indulge in
refreshments, a swim, and a chat. We took in the sun, the water, the wind and
each other. Our conviction was 100% on Krishna consciousness. Yes, Krishna
should always be the focus, otherwise one gets trapped in the mundaneness.
When the beach fun was completed
with this group a few of us proceeded to Krishna K’s home for the most sattvic,
Mauritian food by Hari Katha. The yummy episode was followed by our regular
Gita Chat for Tuesday evenings, where we delved into Krishna even more,
referencing chapter three.
What is chapter three all about?
A good amount of this section
addresses sacrifice or, in Sanskrit, yagna. Particularly we looked at
food sacrifice. You prepare food and make an offering to the Supreme. That food
is sanctified as prasadam. Whereas, in the Jewish tradition, food
offered is called kosher. In Christianity (the Catholics) they refer to
offered food in the form of the Eucharist. The Muslims halal
their food. In the Vedic tradition we call it prasadam, or mercy.
Our Gita Chat group stuck to one
verse (text 11) and just explored all avenues of food blessing. I think we got
a bit hungry.
May the Source be with you!
